What is a Bernedoodle?

Bernese Mountain dogs are a gentle, loyal dog breed and Poodles are known for being playful and intelligent.  Combining these two dog breeds creates the Bernedoodle and gives your dog the best traits of both breeds.

Bernese Mountain Dogs have a deep need to please and are a sensitive, intelligent breed.  They are affectionate, loyal and easy going which enhances their likability.  Bernese Mountain Dogs often are affected by hip dysplasia or succumb to cancer giving them a shorter life expectancy than some other breeds.  The Standard Poodle is highly intelligent and playful.  They are easily trained and tend to have amazing personalities.  Poodles have a single layer of dense curly fur so tend to shed a lot less than most other breeds with a double coat.

Bernedoodles have an endearing combination of goofiness, playfulness, intelligence, good character and loyalty making them an excellent choice for a family pet.  Bernedoodles longer life expectancy and love of people also enhance the character of this gorgeous dog breed.

Therapy dogs and companion dogs are increasing and a Standard Bernedoodle will make a great choice for this.  Known for interacting well with all ages and, their gentle easy-going nature along with the easy ability to train make them will suited for a therapy dog.

Coat types range from curly to wavy.  The curlier the coat, the less your dog will shed.  Even if the coat is wavy, it will still be classed as low shedding, especially in comparison to a purebred Bernese.  Bernedoodles require regular brushing/grooming to keep their coats healthiest.  To keep this beautiful coat we recommend your Bernedoodle sees a groomer 3-4 times a year.
